schedules: ordering our life together Upcoming events Friday, May 9 This month, Cornerstone Cafe welcomes Chicago jazz recording artist Pippi Ardennia and Pure Love on Friday, May 9 in Cornerstone Center's Leslie Hall. Open mic begins at 7pm and Pippi and the band will take the stage at 8 pm. Saturday, May 10 The LaSalle Choir will rehearse Saturday, May 10 in the Sanctuary from 9:45 to 11:30 am and will begin with warm-up on Sunday, May 11 in the Sanctuary at 8am. Sunday, May 11 Affirmands and mentors will be meeting the 2nd Sunday of every month in Room 405 from 12:45 to 3:45. On May 14 attend the inaugural event of the Comer Symposium at The Field Museum: A Global Warning: Understanding Climate Change. WGN radio host John Williams will moderate a discussion with experts in geophysics, ecology and policy to explore how our changing climate is changing our planet. Panelists include Timothy E. Wirth (United Nations Foundation and Better World Fund), Dr. Ray Pierrehumbert (University of Chicago) and Dr. Doug Stotz (The Field Museum). The book is available in hardback, paper and audio forms and is found in most CPL Libraries. Many used book stores will have copies as well. -Saturday, May 17 The Green Team says, "Get Inspired." Go to Greenfestival Chicago at Navy Pier on May 17 or 18th. Find out what green technologies are working in Chicago, listen to over 150 visionary speakers, shop for eco-friendly and fair-trade products. You can even bring the kids and check out the Green Kid's zone or kickback at the organic beer garden. LSC belongs to the NNMA and we are excited to volunteer and assist with this event. Friday, Oct 10 Save the date for the 2008 All Church Retreat during Columbus Day Weekend, October 10 to the 12th. The Wonderland Camp & Conference Center in Camp Lake, WI will be the new host site for our retreat this year, offering more space, more rooms and new recreational options than previous years. Watch for more details in the coming months. -Thursday, Jun 15 The Jr. and Sr. High youth will serve the local Chicago community this year for their Summer Mission Project from June 15th to 23rd, getting a taste of the different ministry opportunities here in Chicago. We will both learn from and participate with ministries such as Youth with a Mission, Breakthrough Urban Ministries, and possibly a few others during the week. We will be staying at the Youth with a Mission base. A $50 deposit and form will be needed by May 18th if you would like to go with us. |
