Cabrini Green Legal Aid provides free legal services to low-income and impoverished individuals throughout the city of Chicago in the areas of family, housing and criminal law. Our purpose is to answer God’s call to seek justice and mercy by providing legal services to the poorest of the poor.

CGLA was founded in 1973 by members of LaSalle Street Church. Bill Leslie and Chuck Hogren started the Clinic with funds from the Tyndale House Foundation. Since the Clinic’s inception, members of LaSalle Street Church have been pivotal in ensuring that CGLA continues to assist low-income members of our community through their financial support, volunteerism and board leadership.  CGLA serves over 1,000 people each year.

If you are interested in volunteering at CGLA, we can use your help in the following areas:

  • Volunteer with the LSC/CGLA Family Support Program which pairs teams of volunteers with former CGLA clients to assist and encourage individuals towards increased self-sufficiency and positive life transformation
  • Offering pro bono legal services if you are a lawyer, paralegal or law student
  • Conducting intake interviews with clients
  • Assisting with fundraising – writing grant proposals, newsletter articles, event planning
  • Participating in work days to clean and renew CGLA’s space
  • Perform odd jobs in maintenance of the building
  • Assisting in miscellaneous projects as need arises
