Calling all writers!  (And we ALL are writers.)  Join me on Saturday, October 7 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at my home to create a new LaSalle St. Church writing group. We will gather for coffee and breakfast rolls, and  decide together upon the day of the week, the time, and the format for our group. If you have even an inkling (pun intended) of interest, come to this first meeting.

The Lord’s Prayer
Leader: Laura Truax

Tuesdays, Sep 19 – Oct 10
6:00 – 7:30 pm
Room 407 of Cornerstone Center

The Lord's Prayer: the greatest prayer in the world. It is core to Christian worship and practices throughout the world. It's uttered in all languages and recited in all places. It's challenging and powerful and...strange.  Consider this:  Jesus taught his disciples the prayer though it never mentions Jesus name. It's prayed by people for whom sacrifice and atonement are central beliefs, yet the prayer doesn't allude to either. It's prayed by those fervently caught in the cultural wars, yet it doesn't say anything about the issues that those cultural warriors say is important.  Our worship series this fall focuses on this prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. Concurrently, join Pastor Laura for a deep dive, discussion and practical applications of the prayer for us in our daily lives.

Book Discussion:  Homo Deus
Leaders: Tim Huizenga, Porter Truax

Wednesdays, Sep 27 – Oct 18
6:30 – 8:00 pm
Cornerstone Center

Homo Deus, by Yuval Noah Harari, explores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first century – from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.  Join us as we explore and discuss this best-selling book that even comedian Aziz Ansari is reading

Supplies needed:  Copy of the book.  You can find used copies for a good price on Amazon.

Small groups are different from other ways to get involved at LSC, consider this a time-bound commitment to community. We want all small group members to know and be known by each other. For this to happen, we ask each person to commit to attending 75% or more of the group's gatherings.
